2mm/N Gauge
Presented by Bridlington Model Railway Society
The layout is based on the area immediately to the South of York station, utilising the track plan as it existed prior to the line being modernised and electrified in late 1988. Although the track plan is based on that in 1988, we have taken some liberties with the stock running on the layout, otherwise known as the ’Rule One Mentality’. This also gives us the excuse to run one or two locomotives which would never normally appear around the York area and indeed some not normally seen on BR metals!
A total of twenty storage sidings to the rear of the layout (as well as the four sidings in the scenic section) allow us to run a variety of trains at any one time and the layout is controlled by DCC-EX with tablets using ‘Engine Driver’.
Many of the locomotives are sound fitted, including the fictional ‘visitors’ from a certain TV programme…
Some artistic licence has been used with regards to the lineside buildings and features in order to improve or enhance the satisfaction of those viewing, but the two bridges (which are a significant feature of the real location) have been reproduced as accurately as possible – in fact the Holgate Road bridge is the fourth attempt to produce a model of it in this scale!
We have also taken the opportunity to incorporate a significant amount of electronic control (thanks to one of our members who is highly knowledgeable in that field) and we hope this will also improve the viewer experience.
Please feel free to ask any of the operators about this layout or its operation.
