Cowley Yard (O)

7mm/O Gauge
Presented by William Plant

Cowley Yard represents a fictional addition to the sidings built to serve the pressed steel works in Cowley, Oxfordshire, by the Great Western Railway in the 1920s, as it might have appeared in the period 1962-1967.  The layout assumes the addition of a small locomotive servicing area to the yard.  This would have allowed locomotives coming off inbound trains to be refuelled and perhaps have some light running repairs made before taking their next train.

The layout is just 5ft 4in long and 1ft 5in wide, and we hope it shows that you can recreate a realistic subject in ‘O’ gauge in a fairly small space.

Locomotives are modified, weathered and sound-fitted ready-to-run models representing the shift from steam to diesel traction.  To this end, the type of fuel the yard supplies can be changed from coal to water by replacing a section of scenery.  If you have any questions bout the layout, please ask!  We are always very happy to have a chat.
